A simple and practical guide for newcomers to Poland: where to shop, how to pay, and how to find local or organic products. Learn about Żabka, Lidl, Biedronka, and Polish markets — and make your shopping easy from day one! 🇵🇱🛒

Hello everyone! 😊
When you first arrive in Poland, even simple daily tasks — like shopping — can feel confusing.
Here’s a short, clear guide to help you get started.

👉 Where to shop?

🏪 Small local shops (Żabka, Lewiatan)

You’ll find these on almost every corner.
They’re open from early morning until late evening (Żabka often until 23:00; in larger cities, some are open 24/7).
Perfect for quick or late-night purchases.
⚠️ Note: Prices are usually higher than in supermarkets, and the selection is smaller.

🛒 Discount supermarkets (Biedronka, Lidl, Aldi)

The most popular stores in Poland — known for low prices and good quality.

  • Biedronka – great for fresh fruit and vegetables.

  • Lidl – famous for bakery items (fresh bread and pastries baked several times a day).

  • Aldi – smaller chain, often offering imported products.

🏬 Hypermarkets (Auchan, Kaufland, Carrefour)

Large stores where you can buy everything — food, clothes, electronics, household goods, and more.
Perfect for big weekly shopping trips.

🌽 Farmer’s markets (targi, bazarki)

Ideal for fresh, local, seasonal products — fruits, vegetables, dairy, honey, and bread.
Usually open in the mornings and early afternoons.

👩‍🌾 Eco shops & delicatessens

Offer organic / BIO / vegan products and regional specialties.
Prices are higher, but the quality and freshness are worth it.

👉 How to pay?

💵 Cash — still accepted, but used less often.
💳 Bank cards — accepted almost everywhere, even for small payments.
📱 Mobile payments — very popular in Poland: BLIK, Google Pay, Apple Pay.
ℹ️ Tip: At farmer’s markets, some sellers still prefer cash.

👉 How to recognise eco & local products?

EU organic logo — the green leaf symbol means the product is certified organic.
🇵🇱 “Produkt polski” — label showing it’s made in Poland and supports local producers.
🥕 Local & seasonal — best found at markets or directly from farmers.
🌱 “BIO” / “EKO” sections — usually in supermarkets, for certified organic items.

💡 In short:

  • 🕐 Quick shopping: Żabka / Lewiatan – convenient but more expensive.

  • 💰 Big & cheap shopping: Biedronka / Lidl.

  • 🌿 Fresh & organic: Farmer’s markets or eco shops.
